Musicians Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane and Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo celebrated their union in a traditional ceremony held at the luxury venue, EBandla Hotel and Conference Centre in Ballito, Durban.

According to reports Babes (26) and Mampintsha (38) sold their wedding rights to Showmax for over R3 million. The affair was attended by close friends and family.

Infotainment boss DJ Tira says the couple deserves love, “No one is perfect, but when people work towards one goal, then things work out in the end. Babes and Mampintsha have been through ups and downs but they deserve happiness.”

The couple’s best friend Sandile Makhoba couldn't contain his glee as his friends said I do, “love always wins”.

Babes Wodumo’s dad Bishop Welcome Simelane says he is speechless. “It has been a busy weekend, I can’t say much, but seeing my children happy brings me joy.”

The couple got engaged in October after Mampintsha proposed to Babes during a live radio interview on Gagasi FM. In the proposal, Mampintsha caught Babes Wodumo off guard when he decided to go down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage.

“We have been together for a long time, I think it is time,” he captioned the proposal video.

Mampintsha solidified the proposal by paying lobola for the Gqom queen in December.

Babes and Mampintsha have been dating for almost 10 years. Mampintsha fell for a young Babes, but she was not ready to date him, but he pursued her for years.

In a previous interview with Drum magazine, Babes Wodumo called Mampintsha her best friend. “Yes, we fight like any couple. But he is my best friend, and I don’t see my life without him.

“Many people have judged our relationship, but I am older now and I have learned from my mistakes.”

Their relationship took centre stage after abuse allegations were levelled against Mampintsha during an interview with Masechaba Ndlovu on Metro FM in late 2018.

In 2019 Babes Wodumo's fans were outraged after Mampintsha was allegedly seen beating her during an Instagram Live chat. But Mampintsha denied the abuse claims.

Since then, the couple has laid low from headlines and has diverted attention to their music. Babes release her album, Idando Kazi, in 2020.
