It has been almost two months since the Royal Soapie Awards and actor Sthembiso ‘SK’ Khoza is still in a celebratory mood.
He's been spotted at various events with his precious award in hand.
None of it was planned, he assures us. The excitement and gratitude led the mood.
This is because winning the Best Supporting Actor award meant so much to him.
“I pride myself, I didn’t not study this. My brother too, we took it from the streets of Ntuzuma that is why this award means so much to me,” the KwaZulu-Natal born actor says.

The latest celebration of the multiple celebrations for his win was just a few days ago.
It was all organised by his partner.
“I was told to change and look good. I thought I was going to have dinner,” he says. But the special lady in his life had organised a special dinner.
“We have people in our lives but not a lot of people can do things that shock and surprise you considering where we work. Being with someone who is totally different, and she did something no one has ever done for me before,” SK adds.
He tells DRUM his first big role was on the series Ayeye where he played the lead.
The Bomb Productions series was an instant hit with the viewers.
“Bomb didn’t submit that year, that was heart-breaking because I felt like I did well as a lead. I had been a presenter for years. That was my first role. I auditioned 17 times for the role of Neo on Ayeye. It was the one time I thought I would get the respect I deserved as an actor because I did my best,” he explains.
Fate obviously had other plans. He joined The Queen over five years ago.
His character Shaka, ‘died’ and left the show but later came back.
“I play a character that came back from death. Fans cried out for me for seven months and now I am winning an award because of that character,” SK says.

He remembers the build up to the awards.
“I wasn’t really thinking ‘I want this I want to win it’. I did not want to my hopes up. Awards motivate and demotivate actors at times. There are people who take it to heart when they don’t win,” he says.
After winning, the feeling was indescribable. “We work really hard on set. I jump, I cry, I sweat. I sneeze, I do everything. I breathe and eat Shaka on set. I give 120 % for that guy, God damn, I give 1000% I make sure viewers at home to believe in what I do,” he adds.
SK tells DRUM that the best is yet to come. “I want to see myself go international. I am going to be knocking on those doors.”
