Januworry might look different to everyone.

Those who balled out in December, forgetting the rent was due are now faced with eviction or double payments, while the reversed debit orders are ringing on the other side.

For parents, it's ensuring that your children have everything they need to get back into the school year - from stationery to the uniform.

DJ Shimza has a healthy understanding of this and so he has set up a drive to give children in need school shoes through his foundation. The drive was held today at the Tembisa Rabasotho Community Hall and it was a well-attended and jovial affair.

“Through the Shimuzic Foundation we want to give hope to the children of Tembisa, giving them the confidence to step into school with new shoes.”

The 39-year-old has always strived to look out for the needs of the community that raised him, and he has ensured to hold this drive every year since 2016 along with his efforts to stimulate the party scene in Tembisa and create jobs through venues and events.

“This came from me noticing that kids in the township that I grew up in were walking around not wearing proper school shoes. What they wore would be either torn or broken," he bemoans.

This pained him and so he used his finances and celebrity status to attempt to combat this to play his part in nurturing the future of this township.

He couldn’t do it alone, however.

“As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Hollywood Foundation has been pivotal in my plea to carry out this initiative in my neighbourhood. It was genuinely such a good fit,” the maestro of the decks says.

Beyond this, his 2024 will be brimming with obligations, projects and ventures both of a charitable nature and of course his work as an entertainer.

“The goal is to continue shining a light and giving back as much as I can, to the kids and the community at large.”

Not to mar an otherwise pleasant conversation with a wholesome cause at its core, we had to enquire about the insinuations that are being made by people online after images of him surfaced with the DJ enjoying the company of the now embattled American hip hop legend and music mogul, P.Diddy. He breezed right past this, and we were unable to extrapolate a response.

He also had a slightly turbulent time at the iconic music festival Burning Man last year after the festival was rocked by a storm which forced him to miss a few other engagements. He has his heart set on returning to Black Rock Desert in Nevada along with a performance at the Ultra Music Festival which he is looking forward to.
