It was the first of its kind. It's a genre that's been growing in leaps and bounds in SA and abroad, so it seemed fitting that it be celebrated with the first Amapiano Awards ceremony.
The historical event was held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg and the pioneers of the genre were lauded for their work.

Presented by actor and comedian Moshe Ndiki and content creator Robot Boii, the audience was treated to performances by choreographer Kamo Mphela, who also walked away with two wins, Sir Trill, Amaroto, Lady Du, and an on-stage exhibition to honour late Amapiano artists Killer Kau, Mpura, TD, Thando Tot and Rustenburg firefighter Sanza Mohumi.
The awards will be broadcast on SABC 1 and dates will be announced closer to the time.
