He wants to move past everything, get a divorce, settle and start a new life.

Mohale Motaung says his divorce from Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo has taken a toll on his life.

But luckily after a few sessions of therapy, his journey to healing begins. In his recent interview with Drum, Mohale said he has attended therapy to help deal with the divorce.

“I think what helped is that I went for therapy and counseling, and I was able to sort of deal with a lot of things.”

His name has been on everyone’s lips since he opened up in a 51-minute interview with Aldrin Sampear on Showmax.

In the interview, Mohale shared how he and his estranged husband Somizi met, and made allegations about how their relationship moved from happy to abusive, and eventually how they parted ways and are still dealing with a complicated divorce.

He narrates an incident where Somizi allegedly physically assaulted him in their home.

“That part of my life was a very dark time. This particular incident happened in our home,” he told Aldrin.

“For me, it was seeing the person in a way I had never seen him before. The incident that got us to the point was one that I thought would make us happy as a couple. He was angry at the fact that I went to work in Durban and coming back from Durban and arriving home he was waiting for me, and he said, ‘where do you come from?'

"And he continued to say to me that I am not me telling the truth.”

Mohale says he had a bottle of champagne that he started spilling it on him.

Speaking to Drum, Mohale has shared pictures from another alleged abuse incident.

“We were at the Idols SA finale in November 2018. We had a slight argument at the event and he used the opportunity to make me jealous by starting to speak to an ex who was at the event,” he says.

“We argued again in the car. He then got on the phone with the same guy. When we got home things escalated. He even phoned a friend to say I am disrespecting him. It wasn’t the first time he got violent, and I saw the argument escalating, So I took my keys and left,” he says.

“When I drove off, he followed me. I tried to get away from him, but he kept following me. I phoned my best friend in Pretoria saying I’m coming to sleep over. I was afraid,” he adds.

“I was using the back routes to get there. As I was trying to run, he then scooped me off the road and he hit me near Steyn City in Fourways.”

Mohale shares more allegations of abuse.

Mohale says once his car was hit, he dragged him out of the car and started scratching and hitting him.

“I had added my sister on the call. When the security came, he lied and said he was helping me with the accident. All the while, my best friend and sister were on the phone. I left and managed to drive to my [friend's] home.”

Mohale has shared more allegations of abuse.

In 2021, when the abuse allegations first surfaced, Somizi and his team said given the severity of the allegations, he has referred the matter to his legal team.

"No further comment will be given until such a time deemed necessary by his legal representatives."
