All kinds of bright colours welcomed guests in the Multichoice office building on Thursday, 07 December 2023.

If one entered at the right time, they would also hear the famous voice of Big Brother welcoming all who honoured the invitation to launch the fourth season of Big Brother Mzansi.

The last time fans of the reality TV show could watch strangers turn into housemates, lovers and friends was earlier this year from January to April.

Even though the latest offering was Big Brother Titans which included Nigerian and South African housemates, the return of the show now brings it entirely back home with auditions only open to South Africans.

Themed around a kaleidoscopic feel, Big Brother Mzansi season four will premiere on Sunday, 21 January 2024 under the banner of causing chaos – S'ya Mosha with Lawrence Maleka returning as its host.

In a statement, they said this season is all about disruption, challenging perceptions and boldly breaking free from the norm. From the unexpected bright visual treatments that are exhilarating, to the most unpredictable group of housemates yet, the season promises to be a feast for your senses.

"Big Brother S’ya Mosha is a disruption of the norm. It means setting a new bar, being the most memorable season for disrupting and breaking away from what is expected. Viewers are familiar with what Big Brother is all about and they know what to expect every season, or so they think. With this season, we are messing with those perceptions and blowing their expectations out of the water," says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels.

''You may think you know how Big Brother operates, but season 4 has more than just a few twists and turns that will keep viewers guessing. The format is also being enhanced by adding new game mechanics...nothing is predictable, and Biggie is here to shake things up, building on the elements that viewers love i.e. Saturday Night Parties, Friday Night Games,” says Big Brother Mzansi executive producer Natalie Bleksley of Red Pepper Productions.

During a question-and-answer session in the attendance of the previous winners from the show, Shirley assured viewers that there would not be shower hour this time around.

According to research, she says it was found that the show’s audience comprised of people from all age groups from children to grandmothers and this hour dedicated to showering was met with negativity in its last offering. Not only did it cause awkwardness in homes, but it was also found disrespectful as it seemed like an invasion of privacy.

Answering to the criteria used to choose this season’s housemates, Shirley says that a series of extensive interviews are held in order to bring a myriad of people from different backgrounds and who’ll be bringing different elements into the house.

Head of unscripted content, Mbalenhe Ntuli adds that shortlisted people even go through psychometric tests to ensure that the people who make it to the house are psychologically ready for what happens in the house and also ensure the safety of others around them.

The value of the grand prize was, however, not disclosed and was kept as a surprise for a later stage.
