Bringing a different kind of glitz and glam, the new lifestyle show will showcase beauty how-tos, entertainment news, fashion and bring through the tea while it’s still hot.
Every Saturday from this week onwards at 7.30pm, SABC 1 viewers will be the first to get what’s making rounds on the social and celebrity streets.
All this, for the Gen Zs.

“The Sauce is a show that is more practical in terms of Gen Zs are going to get tips from. It’s a show that’s aimed at giving you some sort of a take-out. We’re not a show that just shows you something and then you walk away. We’ve got four pillars – entertainment news, beauty and under beauty we also have health similar to what content creators are doing on Instagram where they show you how to get a certain look. When we’re doing fashion, we’re either celebrating people who are always getting it right or what not to do,” says the executive producer, Letitia Masina.
“Our target audience is 16 to 23, the bottom end of them are not working so they’re doing things like thrifting. We’re not just lifestyle high-end, we’re a mix because our audience is mix – the 23-year-old just started working and the 16-year-old is not there, we’re trying to bridge the gaps. At the same time, we know that they live on the small screen (cellphones) at that age so even how we showcase the content, we try to not make it too serious because they’ll change the channel.”
Brows were raised, though, when Nomalanga Shozi was officially announced as the host of the Gen Z lifestyle show at the launch, with attendees asking if there couldn’t be a younger, relatable host that they could’ve considered.

Letitia says the decision to have the KZN-born 29-year-old host was informed by the research that was conducted.
“That same target audience aspires and most of the content that they watch on their screens is not of each other. It’s of people that they aspire to be like then they’d put themselves on to the screens. The hope is that once we’ve gained traction, we want to invite them to be a part of the show. Our models going forward are going to include them,” she tells Drum.
In addition to including their audience, they will also bringing social commentary to TV broadcasting.
