If there is anyone who knows the importance of this kind of business, it’s her.

As a musician, Gigi Lamayne is always on the road, sometimes even touring on different continents, so she knows all about being fatigued and needing that extra little boost.

In comes her new business venture, an IV therapy Lounge.

Speaking to Drum just days after returning from touring the US, she says she will be the store’s number one client.

“I need that boost right now, I’m trying to adjust to the time zones,” she laughs.

The Fufa hitmaker is no stranger to business, she has been involved in other business including Ubers.

“I have made my money in music, and I hope to make more in the future. But I also know that I need to be smart with my money and be strategic with my money. And what better way to do that than to find other streams of income?”

Gigi, real name Genesis Manney, says health and wellness are things that have always been close to her heart.

“I love IVs because as someone who is constantly on the road, I know how easily you can find yourself with an energy deficiency and with an IV you get everything your body needs. Sometimes we do not get all the nutrients our bodies need from the food we eat because it is so processed. But now, you can come to the store, and get that much-needed boost while you sip a freshly squeezed juice of your choice.”

She’s going into this business alone without any investors joining her in the franchise, but she is not entirely alone.

“My mom who is a nursing sister by profession will be getting involved in the medical side and my stepfather was also involved in the architecture and general modelling of the store. It is not necessarily a family business, but I love the support I have received from my family, and I am hoping other black families can get inspired into working together more.

“For now, we have less than 10 employees and I am proud to say we have an all-female staff compliment from admin to everyone in the store. I am really hoping to open another store when this one succeeds.”

She is opening and launching her store at The Marc Shopping Centre in Sandton on Saturday, 9 December.
