She's married to one of the most loved men in SA right now. And even those who hate him can't help but gush over him.

When he posts a picture on social media, thousands of followers - mostly women - flock to the comments section to tell him just how much they love him.

Lesego Khoza (30) is married to Bonko Khoza, the man who plays Mqhele Zulu on The Wife. She's not fazed by his fame as she's a star on her own.

She chats to Drum about her career, ambitions and tells us what it's like being married to Bonko when he's not being Mqhele.

Lesego and Bonko recently celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary and they have been together for nine years. The couple shares a mutual love for God and have devoted their lives to being Christians.

“Being married to Bonko is amazing, he is such an amazing talent that I have known for so many years and I couldn’t wait for the world to witness his greatness. I am married to my best friend, and nothing has changed between us. We are living life the way we always have.”

She loves the entertainment industry, she says.

“I have always been an artist. I remember when I was younger, I would dress up and do a modelling show for my grandmother. I have always performed and when the opportunity to sing at church came, I would sing, I used to do anything to be in front of an audience."

She studied arts and drama at the Market Theatre Lab and that is where she met her now husband Bonko.

Since then, she's been part of some big productions such as The Queen, Isono and multiple Mzansi Magic movies.

“I am mainly a theatre actress because I come from the Lab, I have done a lot of theatre work and I excel in theatre. After auditioning I have managed to debut my television career and I would like to do more of it."

She is also a YouTuber who vlogs about her adventures with her husband, her acting career and as well as her interest in tourism. Her lifestyle content gives people a closer look into her personal life as she shares inspiring stories with her YouTube family.

“My YouTube started as an idea I was given by a friend because every time I used to talk to my fellow actors, I used to speak about me and my boyfriend. And a friend suggested that I vlog and have a YouTube channel called ‘So me and my boyfriend’ because my husband and I did a lot of things back then. I wanted to showcase my acting there and I turned it into a lifestyle channel.”

She describes herself as a straight talker who wants build those around her and inspire them. She believes that words should heal and not destroy.

She says that that her faith in God was challenged when she got to tertiary, and she encountered other beliefs and other forms of spirituality, but she and her husband encountered Jesus while still studying and they vowed to be committed Christians.

“My disconnect happened when the word was teaching me about different things but prayer has never left my life. In 2017 my husband and I decided that we need to fully commit to Christ, and we can’t be lukewarm Christians. When we started praying together, our relationship grew more and we grew stronger from then.”

She is currently working on numerous television projects that will be released soon including a movie directed by Hlomla Ndandana as well as a Netflix show that will be coming out soon.

“I have a lot of faith and believe that God’s timing is more perfect than my timing. Knowing that God will orchestrate my career the way that he wants to because I have surrendered my life to him.”
