The heatwave brings an usually summery morning for this time of the year, and Jub Jub appears as cool as a cucumber.

Molemo Maarohanye appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 12 March 2024, before Magistrate Betty Khumalo, wearing a military-green Dickies two-piece and white sneakers, barely breaking a sweat.

The Moja Love presenter, facing 13 criminal charges including rape, indecent assault, kidnapping and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, arrived with his family who are adamant the rapper is innocent.

Speaking to Drum, Jub Jub's uncle – while waiting for his nephew to come to the courtroom – said he has a lot to say but it is reserved for the day he sees the three complainants come to court.

Jub Jub handed himself over to the police in July 2023 after three women laid changes for incidents that allegedly happened from 2006 to 2009.

“They are putting my son through this, but they do not attend, is that even allowed? But all that I have to say will be said when they decide to avail themselves,” says the uncle.

The brief appearance was postponed after Jub Jub's legal representative, Advocate Terrence Baloyi, told the court that they are asking for postponement so that they can make submission of the representation this time to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

This is after they expressed their dissatisfaction with the papers they received from the state. “We are asking for a postponement to make representation. From here we will move straight to the DPP to make the submissions.”

In February Advocate Baloyi stated the reason he stood before the court was to confirm have, they received the particulars, but they were not satisfied.

However, he had a chat with state prosecutor Agnes Bezuidenhout and she confirmed that there is nothing further that they can provide, so they had to work with what they had, says Baloyi.

“We have made a move by submission of facts. We have discussed that whatever the situation may be, we shall seek for postponement for submissions of representation to the DPP."

The State says it is ready to proceed with the matter.

However, it is also not against the Defence wanting to make submissions with the DPP.

Advocate Agnes told the court previously that the investigations were completed long ago and there is an annexure in the docket because she is worried it might get lost.

The annexure and the charges have been provided to the Defence, she added.

Magistrate Khumalo postponed the matter to next month for the submission of the representations.
