She is glowing and enjoying her pregnancy.
Abomama actress Busisiwe Mtshali and her husband, sports coach Khotso Leepile, are expecting their first baby.
The mom-to-be is heavily pregnant and tells Drum she can’t wait to welcome their "surprise baby”.
The couple have decided not to find out the gender of their baby.
“We don’t know the gender, we wanted to keep it a surprise,” Busisiwe says.
“We also don’t have names for the baby because of the gender and we are leaving the naming of the baby to the grandparents. They are very excited about it, and it would be an honour to have our parents name the baby.”
It took her about two weeks to realise she was pregnant.
“I was at home, and we were prepping to go away for a holiday, and I was just not feeling well,” she says.
“I had car sickness, nausea, and all of these strange things that were unlike me. After about two weeks of constant nausea and car sickness, I decided that maybe I need to take a test.”
She woke up one morning and took a pregnancy test.
“My husband was still sleeping when I decided to do the test. I didn’t want to take a test and let it be negative and then be disappointed and have him be disappointed.”
The first test came back positive with a really faint line and the second one came out with double lines.
“I freaked out and woke him up to him know. It was very exciting.” After telling her husband, she told her mother and mother-in-law, who were both over the moon.

Busisiwe and her husband Khotso have been together for two years. “We have been married for a year and a half. We dated for six months before we decided to get married,” she says.
The two met through a friend at the gym.
“My husband was a personal trainer. It happened that he was training my best friend Zola and that’s how I got to know him. I would creep into their one-on-one sessions and just join them, and from there, the rest is history,” she says.
Marriage and children were never on the cards for Busisiwe.
“I never thought I’d ever get married or have children. I feel like an imposter,” she jokes.
“Kids were never part of the plan for the longest time. But that changed very quickly when I met my husband. Argh, I suppose as the cliché goes, the one is the one, he will change all the things you thought you were very sure about.”
She looks forward to meeting her baby.
“I am very excited to be a mom. It’s been an exciting time in my life. I’ve had a very easy pregnancy. I haven’t been sick, struggled with nausea, pains, and aches. My baby has been good to me.”

When the baby arrives, Busisiwe thinks she will be a protective mom.
“I’m generally a very strict aunt. Right is right and wrong is wrong. But I don’t know if I can say I will be a strict mom because once you have your own, things tend to change. I will, however, be an overprotective mom. I might also be a bit of a walkover and daddy might be a little bit stricter than me. But I think he will be a phenomenal father because he works a lot with children,” she says.
“He is a sports coach and he is surrounded by children all the time and when I watch him with the seven- to 13-year-old kids he trains, he is naturally gifted with nurturing of children. He will be strict in making sure the baby shows up as their best self. But he will also be gentle. He is a gentle person. He is much softer than me. I am hard and crazy. But we will definitely have a good balance,” she says.
The actress is currently taking it easy with her career and working behind the scenes.
“I am working behind the scenes on an amazing production film that I can’t disclose as yet. Being behind the scenes has allowed me room to nest and just look after my baby. Once my baby arrives, I’ll go back to being an actress.”
