She has cemented her career as a radio and TV presenter.
Modiadie (34) is ready to show a different dimension to her usual job as a presenter and host.
The multi-dimensional mom of one has been cast for the role of Yvonne on the new Mzansi Magic drama Redemption set to premiere on BET Africa (DStv 129) from 26 September at 6pm.
Redemption is set in a mega church. The story revolves around the well-respected Zikode family, led by Simon Zikode, played by critically acclaimed Themba Ndaba.
Following his mysterious disappearance, the pastor’s daughter Faith (Kwanele Mthethwa), who is on the cusp of an international music career singing pop songs, drops everything and returns to the church to rescue her family.
As Faith immerses herself in the church, she uncovers dark and devastating family secrets.
She stars alongside seasoned actors Tina Jaxa, Themba Ndaba, Seputla Sebogodi and Pakamisa Zwedala, Zenzo Ngqobe, Majorie Langa, and Leera Mthethwa to name a few.
“Yvonne is the girlfriend who turns wife to Zwelakhe,” she says during the press conference of Redemption.
Zwelakhe is a recovering drug addict coming home from the rehabilitation centre. A tragedy happens and his father pastor Simon played by Themba Ndaba goes missing or he dies and his family is left having o pick up the pieces.
“Yvonne and Zwelakhe are a great couple,” she says.
“They love each other but I think what is surprising about Yvonne is the length that she will go through to ensure that her husband becomes the best that he can be for her own benefit,” Pearl adds.
“So there are many surprises about the lengths that she will go to.”
The former Zaziwa presenter loved every minute of working with seasoned actors and new talent.

This is not her first acting role. In 2013 Pearl made her debut on the e.tv soapie Scandal! playing the role of feisty Kefilwe Malope with a history of drug abuse. Since then, she has landed roles on Rhythm City, played Bonnie on Ambitions, starred in season one of Black Tax, and recently played Andiswa Makeba on Entangled.
“I have had a couple of stints in acting on Scandal! and Generations but those were short-lived because I was on the radio, and I was hosting Zaziwa as well and radio is very demanding. It needs a lot of your time, and you can’t always immerse yourself in other things that you wish to do,” she says.
“I finally have the time to be part of a long-form drama series which is great.”
But still says acting among greats was nerve-racking.
“Coming into it was very daunting for me because of the people I get to work with and some of the times when you are a tv host or an event MC, people see you as that and once you walk into the acting space, there’s resistance,” she says.
“So, I had a point to prove and I hope that you guys see the work and effort that went into portraying what Yvonne is about. I hope people don’t see the host. But it also helps that I have not been hosting commercial TV for a while and that almost erases what people know me as in that space and they get to see an actress.”
