They have been frank about what's happening in their relationship. They were close to getting a divorce when lockdown hit, and it saved them.

Now they've opened up about everything leading up to the divorce announcement earlier this year.

Ne-Yo's wife Crystal Smith says she was embarrassed after she found out from the media that her husband of four years was divorcing her.

She said this in a recent joint interview on the Tamron Hall Show.

The pair had decided to go their separate ways earlier this year. In June they then decided to give their marriage another try.

According to the Bang Show reports, the Sexy Love hitmaker said the Covid-19 lockdown saved his marriage.

“The whole quarantine thing was kind of a blessing,” Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, said at the time.

“It allowed me the time to be with my family.

“Before the quarantine happened, we were definitely talking divorce, and the quarantine forced us to sit still , block out the noise from the world.”

Speaking to Tamron, Crystal reflected on the moment she learned about her divorced from the news.

"We weren’t really talking at the time,” she says.

“I chose to leave the relationship because of issues, and at the time I felt like he was trying to get back at me or hurt me."

However, Crystal says her husband says that those were not his intentions and she believes him.

“I took his word for it. But it definitely didn’t feel good, [it was] embarrassing to say the least.”

The wife to the 41-year old singer says after she heard about her divorce she then decided to start working on her pain as this was the right thing to do in order to heal.

“So, whether we were going to be together or not, I had to heal for myself so I could get up and perform for my kids.”

Ne-Yo says he shared the news in an attempt to get ahead of the reports swirling about their relationship.

“I had gotten word that it had gotten out, and I was trying to get in front of the blogs and everybody.”

The singer also revealed that he never really wanted to divorce his wife.

“I can honestly say that though I had to put a face on for the public, I did not want to get a divorce. I was really, really broken up about it. But I felt I couldn’t show that to her,” he says.

“My pride wouldn't let me show it to her.”

The couple said they have been back together since June and are still healing from the trauma that was caused by their divorce drama.

Ne-Yo married Crystal in 2016, and shares sons Shaffer Chimere Smith, Jr., four, and Roman Alexander-Raj Smith, two, with her.

He also has two daughters from his previous relationship with girlfriend Monyetta Shaw.
