It is barely a week after the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence campaign in South Africa and cases of violence against women and children are still on the rise.
According to Statistics South Africa, 50% of assaults in gender-based violence cases are committed by someone as close as an acquaintance (22%), a spouse or intimate partner (15%), and a relative of other household members (13%) and about 29% committed by unknown persons.

Idols SA Top 6 contestant Nqobie Linda (29) has also fallen victim to gender-based violence, allegedly at the hands of an ex-lover.
Nqobile took to social media to show bloody bruises on her face after the alleged attack.
“What was supposed to end as a beautiful night with my little sisters on the 9th ended like shit,” she captioned the pictures.
“Never have I ever in my entire existence felt like I was worthless.”
Nqobie did not name her abuser but says one day he will be punished for his deeds.
“I won't name and shame, but I know his day will come. I also hurt him, but it wasn't enough because at the end of the day he is a man. Imagine being beaten up because you're no longer in love with someone. Yep, that's why I was beaten up by my ex-boyfriend,” she says.

Nqobie joined Idols after having given up on her dreams to be a singer. She had worked at a bank as an administrator.
The Pimville, Soweto singer told the judges that Idols revived her love for music but she left after falling into depression.
Although she did not win this season of Idols SA, Nqobie was a fan favourite. Many recognised her for her backup singing days with R&B singer Nothende Madumo.
