This year has been nothing but one win after the next for the KwaMashu-born musician and producer.
He kicked off the year with a Grammy award and has been floating high with the stars ever since.
Now as he nears closer to the release of his last album under the Universal Music Group label, he plans to bow out from the frontlines of the music business in style.
As clouds hovered over the DHL stadium on 14 July 2023, the City of Cape Town mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, actress and rapper Boity Thulo and singer Nomcebo Zikode were among those in attendance of yet another celebration of Zakes Bantwini’s strides.
Following the recent announcement that Boity, Zakes and Nomcebo have secured a partnership with Aline talent agency, Zakes is already on to his next win.

At the press conference held at the stadium where all the fireworks will be going off on 28 October 2023, Geordin congratulated Zakes on the launch of what is aimed at being an annual show – Abantu (The People).
“We’re so pleased to partner with you on this incredible event in Cape Town on the 28th of October," said the mayor after calling the man of the moment to the stage.
"We’re looking forward, in the coming weeks and months, to hear the full line-up that you have got in store for us and of course, you’re going to be the headline [act].”
After a warm welcome on stage, Zakes thanked those in attendance at the conference, the stadium management as well as Aline which has made the show possible with a three-year partnership.
“We had a dream and in that particular dream, we knew that the only city that would be able to accommodate how big our dream was, was Cape Town and your warm welcome Mr Mayor, made it really possible for us,” he says.
He adds that the previous day, he was assured that Cape Town was the perfect city to host his show.

“Abantu, the show is going to take place in the best city in the world… we have such a beautiful line-up of artists that are going to be announced next week and the last phase in following week. The show will be headlined by myself and another exciting international act which you’re going to find out about.”
The tickets to the show will be available on Howler and will range from R450 to R3 500 as the countdown to the end of October begins.
