Last year hip hop turned 50 globally and reached 40 here at home.

Celebrations were plentiful but the quality of music released last year was lackluster across the board and globe.

Media outlets and entities released their list of the best rappers alive or rappers from a certain city with most of these lists being met with outrage, especially if you consider Complex Magazine’s take on the best in New York City, the birthplace of the movement.
