Singer and presenter Nandi Madida will host the Afropunk at Johannesburg’s Constitution Hill on the 30th and 31st of December.
Nandi could hardly contain her excitement to host the first Afropunk Joburg. After 14 years in Brooklyn, Atlanta, London and Paris, Afropunk 's annual festival takes place in Johannesburg for the first time.
“I am particularly ecstatic and honored to be hosting Afropunk because it is not only a festival but a movement that I've followed for many years, one that encouraged me to go out there and be unashamedly myself in a world that is constantly trying to make us conform to certain social norms. And now it's happening in the centre of all things "Afro" — that is insane! Africa is the cradle of so many things that are bold, fierce and alternative, from artists, to the people coming to watch, to the legacy Afropunk has created, I honestly feel like I'm home, and I can't wait to interact with my people. It's going to be epic! I am beyond humbled to be a part of the very first Afropunk in South Africa as an MC. Let us make history and be a part of an incredible legacy,” she said in a statement.
