There are many ways to become a millionaire, even though most of them aren’t easy.

However, entering a reality show seems to be one the easiest way to do it these days. That’s if you can stand living in a house with strangers for multiple days while millions of people watch you do it, that is.

This year, Big Brother Mzansi is reportedly giving away R2 million to the winner of the show. This will be their biggest cash prize yet.  But how does it fare against the other versions of the franchise across the world?

According to IMBD, Big Brother was originally a Dutch reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr. It was later syndicated to other countries that created their own versions of the show.

Here’s how Mzansi’s biggest cash prize fares against five other adaptations of Big Brother.

Big Brother America

With a whopping 23 seasons, Big Brother America is one of the biggest and most popular adaptations of the show.

The current cash prize sits at $750 000 (R12.2 million).

Big Brother Australia

In its 13th season, Big Brother Australia is still hugely popular in the country. The current cash prize is AU$ 250 000 (R2.9 million).

Big Brother UK

The home of the very first Big Brother show, Big Brother UK has 45 seasons with different variations of the show such as; Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother: After Dark.

The current cash prize for season 17 of the show is £70 000 (R1.5 million)

Big Brother Africa

With 9 seasons, Big Brother Africa is one of the most successful adaptations of the show. It features housemates from multiple countries in Africa and has had contestants from South Africa in previous seasons.

The current cash prize sits at $300 000 (R6.5 million).

Big Brother Naija Big Brother Naija, formerly known as Big Brother Nigeria recently wrapped up its sixth season.

The cash prize awarded totalled N30 million (R1.1 million).

It’s clear that if you want the big bucks, Big Brother America is the place to go.  However, Big Brother contestants – winners or otherwise – have built lucrative careers off their fame from being on the show.

From moving on to their own reality shows, to starting businesses and becoming influencers and celebrities in their own right – it has become very evident that being a part of a reality show is a great introduction to stardom.
