3/5 STARS
At first glance this seems like the kind of book that could give you sleepless nights but, despite the catchy title, it’s not a creepy thriller. Although there’s not much suspense, this debut novel is original, captivating, clever and laced through with dark humour. Korede is her sister’s keeper. She watches out for her and cleans up after her killing sprees.
REVIEW | The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
Ayoola is the quintessential little sister: irresponsible and entitled. On top of this she’s drop-dead gorgeous, and I mean this literally – the men in her life mostly end up dead. The story is set in Lagos and the Nigerian author has such a knack for writing dialogue that the accents of her characters come through loud and clear. This is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a book you can devour in a few sittings. It might not scare you but it will definitely keep you turning the pages.
