Traditionally, farming requires abundant land but farmers like Gugulethu Mahlangu are approaching the land shortage issue in Joburg differently.
The 29-year-old tells Drum how her grandmother inspired her.
“Whenever I visited my grandmother Emalahleni she always had food. In her garden, she had tomatoes, green beans, roses, she had everything — and all of this from her backyard, yet she’s not a commercial nor subsistence farmer. I realised that agriculture is very inherent in us as people, the seed was sown through her,” she tells Drum.
