Body shaming is back in the spotlight, as the coronavirus has given a new lease of life to anti-obesity campaigns.

Lose weight, medical experts say, and politicians have jumped on the bandwagon, justifying their comments as excess body fat can be a risk factor of serious complications from Covid-19.

But all this publicity has come with little thought to the distress it can cause. The idea may be to motivate people to embrace healthier lifestyles, but it can also stigmatise and destroy self-esteem.
