THE Thame family from Magau Village, outside Makhado in Limpopo, buried their brother, Tshamaano John, in 1989.
So when a man they believe is Tshamaano returned home on 9 March, the family welcomed him back. But some family members have had enough of the man as he’s making their lives hell.
This is because the man, who is now 61 years old, has been giving the family sleepless nights by being aggressive and demanding to return to where he lived. He allegedly kicked the doors at about 3am and relieved himself in the house instead of using the outside toilet.
Last week, the family took him to a private institution in Thohoyandou, where a DNA test was conducted. Morris and his wife, Peggy, have been living with the man for more than two weeks whose behaviour has affected their marriage. Morris’ sister, Linda, told Daily Sun Peggy left. “We tried to speak to her not to leave, but it seems she has had enough.”
“I have been giving the couple necessary support when they agreed to look after this man, who we believe is our sibling,” she said.
She said they have been looking for a place of safety where the man could live while they waited for the results, but they were unable to find one as they couldn’t produce the man’s ID.
Peggy said the man is very aggressive. “He does mysterious things and when I question my husband, he gets mad and protects him. Our lives are about this man.We don’t understand the language he speaks. He sometimes speaks Khelobedu badly and the children laugh at him, which makes their father mad.
“So I decided to leave so he can live with his brother,” she said.
Lucky Malema from South African National Civic Association said they tried to intervene. “We helped the family rush the DNA test and the results will be released after 21 days.”
Witnesses Tiva the spokesman for the Department of Social Development in Limpopo said they have activated family preservation programme where a social worker has been send to the family to do assessment of the situation. .
