SOCIAL media networks have changed how people communicate globally.
On Monday, 9 May, I ran a voting poll to our digital SunReaders, asking about their favourite platforms. And what a response we got from our online audience, with more than 555 votes cast.
The list of networks included Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, Twitter, and Telegram. And WhatsApp, Meta’s messaging app, came out tops with over 265 votes.
The impressive response allowed me to compile the following top six social media apps that I think are game-changers:
WhatsApp:
The free internet-based text and voice messaging app boasts about 20 billion monthly active users.
It’s a great tool for communication and fully encrypted, making it harder for fraudsters to hack.
Facebook:
According to DataReportal, as of January this year, Facebook had more than 2,9 billion monthly active users. It allows people to share personal posts and gives businesses a space to thrive.
YouTube:
This is the second-most popular search engine in the world, behind Google with over 2 billion monthly users.
TikTok:
This new kid on the block gained much of its success when Covid-19 hit the world. The video-based app reportedly sees more than 800 million monthly users and has recorded about 1 billion downloads.
Instagram:
It has quality graphics and filters to make your photos stand out, and boasts about over 1 billion monthly users.
Twitter:
The great medium of communication breaks news online, and allows users to engage with famous people instantly.
