MICROSOFT Corporation is moving with the times and some of its products are set to be taken off shelves.
The giant tech company has announced its decision to terminate the extended security updates for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 early next year.
In a blog post, Microsoft said support for the mentioned products will end on 10 January 2022.
Support for Google Chrome will also be terminated for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1.
This comes after Internet Explorer was phased out on 15 June this year.
The company said Microsoft Edge browser version 109 and WebView2 Runtime version 109 will be the last respective versions to support these operating systems.
“Both Microsoft Edge version 109 and WebView2 Runtime version 109 are scheduled for release the week of January 12th, 2023.
“While Microsoft Edge and WebView2 Runtime versions 109 and earlier will continue to work on these operating systems, those versions will not receive new features, future security updates, or bug fixes,” the blog read.
To get new versions of Microsoft Edge or the WebView2 Runtime with up-to-date functionality and security, users are urged to upgrade to Windows 10 or later.
“We also encourage developers to end support for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. We acknowledge that this may not be easy for some developers to do, however ending support for these operating systems will help keep end users safe from potential security threats and risks as both operating systems go out of support on January 10th, 2023,” Microsoft concluded.
