A 50-YEAR-OLD businessman and his 34-year-old business manager were served with summons by the serious commercial crime investigation team of the Hawks on Tuesday, 19 July.
This was for the numerous counts of the contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act.
Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the two were expected to make their first court appearance at the New Brighton Magistrates Court on 4 August.
It is alleged that Spoor and Fisher Attorneys were which is a brand holder representative of Volkswagen situated in Pretoria acting on counterfeit and trademark-related matters tasked by Volkswagen AG to work on information received that possible counterfeit Volkswagen products were sold from the premises of Autostyling in Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape.
A purchase of four alloy wheels was made on 3 May and the purchased goods were analysed and confirmed to be fake.
The matter was reported to the Hawks, who searched the premises on 30 June. A total of 22 alloy wheels and 14 VW insignia valued at R44 250 were confiscated by the Hawks.
