THE all-new Jeep Gladiator is here and by the look of things, it was worth the 10-year wait.
According to Stellantis SA, the new pick-up is not only looking good with amazing capabilities, but also has a powerful engine for good off-roading.
Thanks to its rich heritage, it is robust and beautiful with open air freedom. It also has modern safety and innovative technology. The launch set-up was in Kromdraai, with enough gravel road to try it on. And while it is a great performer on terribly potholed roads around North West, it is a wonder on real rough gravel.
This is what makes managing director Leslie Ramsoomar say the Jeep Gladiator is questionably a double cab and ultimate bakkie for adventure.
“There has been tremendous demand for this unique vehicle from our loyal Jeep customers and double cab buyers over the world. South Africans’ affinity to pick-ups or bakkies is well-established, and we believe Gladiator offers them a true lifestyle alternative in this popular segment,” he said.
The brand said Jeep Gladiator is 100% Jeep, bakkie, and adventurous. Mzansi gets one model derivative, the Rubicon, filled with every available feature the pick-up has to offer.
It boasts a rugged, distinguished design aesthetic that is immediately recognisable with traditional design cues. The dash takes a simple sculpted form that complements the horizontal dashboard design. An 8,4-inch touch-screen has the fourth-generation Uconnect system and sits prominently atop the centre stack.
Under the bonnet is the 3,6-litre V6 engine paired with eight-speed automatic transmission, delivering 209kW and 347Nm of torque.
Price: It comes at a cost of R1 259 900, with a three-year/100 000km maintenance and five-year/100 000km warranty plan.
