ONE of Mzansi’s top car spinners and drifters, Msinga Driftkhana, is back after an interruption of two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Although car spinning is associated with reckless driving, organisers will use the event to raise awareness on road safety to drivers and pedestrians.
The 11th annual event will be held on 1 October at Mphelankani Entertainment Centre in Msinga, KZN midlands.
Msinga Driftkhana has been a centre of entertainment in the province, attracting neighbouring countries.
Mzansi’s elite and emerging talents perform various stunts in high-revving cars in an arena, exclusively built for the sport and entertainment.
Founder Simanga Mabaso told Daily Sun that over the past two years, they staged the event with limited numbers due to Covid-19 regulations.
“We are looking forward to welcoming crowds as the event attracts not only locals, but people from across South Africa and neighbouring countries. October is also National Transport Month, so we will use the event to advocate for road safety,” he said.
Mabaso said the event created employment for both drivers and locals.
“We ensure that we share proceeds with the community as we did last year. We donated food parcels to more than 100 families, and laptops to school children. We will host the pre-party at Lake Merthley in Greytown, where people can bring jet skis, squad bikes, and bicycles to close off Tourism Month in style. Young kids will be catered for with jumping castles and live entertainment. The event will start at 9am, followed by the after party featuring various artists,” he said.
He said that drivers will include Magesh Ndaba, Lefa Lentja, Eddie Boy, and Sam-Sam.
Tickets are available at Computicket for R100 general, R700 VIP and R1 500 VVIP.
