MPUMALANGA Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has joined the war against potholes in her province through the Vala Zonke campaign.
It started on a bad road between Phiva and KaMadlala in Nkomazi on Thursday, 1 September.
“Definitely, this is a good initiative that we have launched as the provincial government. We declared war against potholes through this campaign. As you can see today we are here in Nkomazi, one of our provincial roads is in bad shape. We are busy addressing the issue of potholes and therefore our road users must arrive safely home wherever they are driving to. We also want to thank Sanral (South African National Roads Agency) who partnered with us in making sure we collectively address this issue of potholes.
“You have seen we have done a tremendous job in Nkangala. There was a road in bad shape around Bronkhorstspruit and Verena, and we addressed it holistically, so that’s what we want for this road as well, so that it becomes a permanent solution to the challenges we are facing,” she said. The premier said they are meeting the target they set for themselves as the provincial government to make sure their roads are safe and accident-free.
“We know that we do have a number of potholed roads across all municipalities in the provinces, and we have prioritised them. We want to assure the community of Mpumalanga that in the next three months they will see a huge impact in the issue of potholes.”
