THE South African National Road Agency Limited (Sanral) recently launched an app to report potholes.
Members of the public can use the Pothole app to upload photos and provide real-time location data to an interactive map, allowing them to keep track of various roads.
“The information then gets assigned to the relevant authority, depending on where the road is, and the maintenance depot responsible attends to fixing the pothole,” said Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula.
He added that the app would offer status updates on issues raised through a pothole ticketing system.
Mbalula further said a policy was in place demanding Sanral to repair any reported potholes within 48 hours.
“While national roads are overwhelmingly in a pristine condition, we recognise that provincial and municipal roads require a decisive strategy as well as active support to augment capacity gaps.”
He added that potholes remained a problem and hazard to road users across the country.
