A CALIFORNIAN man has been accused of stealing two cars from dealerships within days of each other, using fake identity documents to apply for loans to buy them.
Later identified as Philip Cedric Espina, the 24-year-old man was accused of having gone to a dealership in Walnut Creek and using a fake ID to purchase a black BMW. Then days later, he went to Autobahn Gallery in Dublin, California, to buy a white one.
“This guy came in here, gave us fake information as a different person and took one of our cars. The banks approved it and it was good. Everything checked out,” dealership general manager Matt Saatchi said.
According to Carscoops, he was approved for the loan that got him the car on 13 June. But it was an extremely busy week for Espina because on top of being accused of stealing two cars, he was also involved in an accident in the black BMW two days after it was stolen. Cops arrested him and Saatchi identified the man in a photo line-up.
The publication further reported that the story only kept getting weirder.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said Espina was bailed out on the day he was arrested. That was concerning to Saatchi, who said the man had three other outstanding cases pending against him involving stolen cars and other charges.
