MPUMALANGA cops in Hazyview have arrested two suspects for allegedly hijacking a delivery truck.

A manhunt has been launched for the other suspects, who are on the run.

The two suspects aged 29 and 39 were bust after cops responded to a hijacking in Hazyview on Tuesday, 24 August.

Colonel Donald Mdhluli said three men who were occupants of a truck belonging to a courier company were hijacked and robbed by a group of armed men.

“The suspects appeared and pointed them with firearms and forced the driver together with the other occupants to drive to a secluded place in Nyongane and upon arrival near the graveyard, they were robbed of goods and their personal belongings, including cellphones.

“Allegedly, the suspects loaded the goods from the hijacked truck into the vehicle while the victims were held at gunpoint. Police were informed by good citizens and they acted quickly.

“When the suspects became aware the police were approaching, they fled in a white Toyota Avanza, leaving behind the hijacked truck and the truck they were using.

“A high-speed chase ensued and police managed to corner two of the suspects, while other suspects evaded arrest. The arrested suspects were reportedly found in possession of boxes suspected to have been stolen during the robbery. They were charged with hijacking and possession of suspected stolen property.”

Mdluli said as police were driving back to the crime scene, they noticed residents grabbing some items from the two trucks. These people then fled the scene upon noticing the police, some leaving behind the items in the bushes.

“We strongly condemned those who looted some of the stolen goods, which include clothing items abandoned by the suspects when they realised police were coming for them,” he said.

The arrested suspects are due to appear soon in Masoyi Magistrates Court.

Meanwhile, massive manhunts have been launched for the remaining suspects and members of the community are urged to assist with information on the suspects’ whereabouts, including those who looted the items.

“Anyone with information can call the branch commander, Captain Eurence Sibuyi at 082 449 0231. Alternatively, the public can call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or send information via MySapsApp. All information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous,” said Mdhluli.
