Last year, the public servants did not get an annual increase.
The government said it had no money, reneging on a three-year wage agreement.
It is singing the same song this year. So the public servants will not be being getting a raise for the second year.
The executives at state-owned entities (SOEs) earn between R1,9 million and R7,5 million a year.
Yet, SOEs are underperforming. What are they rewarded for?
Interestingly, Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter is the third-highest paid executive at the SOEs, but Mzansi is experiencing serious power cuts. There’s also the threat that the country may reach stage 8 load shedding.
Not long ago, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa announced that his department was planning to erect a national flag at a cost of R22 million.
Last week, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he had advised Mthethwa to stop that “thing”, referring to the flag project. But why was it approved in the first place?
There have been many complaints about Mthethwa, but the president looks the other way.
It’s clear that the government doesn’t care about public servants or citizens. It also doesn’t care about their livelihoods. It shows that our government is selfish and corrupt, and should be voted out.
