Creatives need more help - Norman Maake, Tembisa

accreditation

A lack of funding from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture results in many ideas dying on laptops.

The money spent on flags was supposed to help struggling creatives and artists, who were not seen or heard by the government.

It was difficult during lockdown but it has always been difficult for them as writers, creatives and artists. They have been complaining about the problem since Minister Nathi Mthethwa took over and many belive the department is deliberately snubbing them.

The department is run by people who don’t understand the ins and outs of its mandate.

That’s why they are forever complaining about budget constraints.

The arts community has generally been passive in social justice struggles and the department doesn’t understand the significance of the arts in this country.
