THERE’s a new term that’s moving around Mzansi: the fourth industrial revolution.
But what does it mean?
It’s the fourth chapter in the industrial revolution that started in 17th century Europe, and it totally changed human existence.
Before the mechanical industry, 90% of people lived in rural areas and were farmers.
Now, less than 10% of people farm. It is expected that intelligent computers will alter life as drastically and strangely for us in the near future.
Gloria Motsoane of Soul Sisters Social Club believes that Mzansi is in dire need of some positive change.
She said: “We live with daily challenges. Township life is tough. We look for decent jobs while taking care of our families.
“As responsible parents, we take whatever work that is available so that the little money we make can fund our families and club.
“Our stokvel is only two months old, but two members have bought with cash when they needed credit before.
“We all live in or near Diepkloof zone 4, Soweto.
“We meet once a month at different venues to make our contributions.
“The month’s host prepares food for the visitors.
“So far the club has eight members and we are looking for new ones, but we only accept women.”
The contributions all go to the month’s host.
So far the hosts have purchased household items such as furniture and kitchen supplies.
