Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães bravely fought off masked baseball bat-wielding thieves who wanted to steal his £45 000 (R948 000) Mercedes.

The incident is said to have happened at the Brazilian defender’s home in north London earlier this year, according to the Daily Mail.

In a video currently doing the rounds on social media, the 23-year-old centre back can be seen taking matters into his own hands when robbers attacked him.

Gabriel had been followed home by the two robbers after a night out with a friend.

The robbers demanded Gabriel's mobile phone, wristwatch and car keys to black Mercedes worth R948 000.

However, the Premier League star was not prepared to part with his valuable items that easily and resisted.

He was then attacked with the baseball bat by one of the robbers who has been identified as Abderaham Muse through shocking CCTV footage.

But Gabriel was able to fight the assailant off, striking him in the face before the robber ran off.

The 26-year-old robber, Muse, was reportedly linked to a previous incident back in August after a scuffle.

He has been slapped with a five-year sentence thanks to the DNA from the hat that the defender is said to have pulled off his head during the attack.
