WITH the Safa presidential election a few days away, odds are stacked against Ria Ledwaba in her quest to dethrone incumbent, Danny Jordaan.

The Safa Overberg Region has rejected Ledwaba and pledged their support for Jordaan.

In a letter written by Safa Overberg president, Tankiso Modipa, which SunSport has seen, he responded to Ledwaba’s request for support.

They made it clear on Monday that the region will support Jordaan when the elections take place at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday.

Jordaan and Ledwaba will be vying for the Safa presidency, alongside Safa Tshwane president Solly Mohlabeng, who is playing his cards close to his chest.

In the letter signed by Modipa, it reads, in part: “The entire regional executive committee rejects your (Ledwaba’s) letter, they have been clear from the beginning they support our incumbent president Jordaan unconditionally.

“The decision was taken before we even knew that you would be contesting. We were disrespected by you after our secretary and vice-president attended the congress declaring the position of the region in the media platform last Saturday afternoon.

“You lamented that they were controlled. You even accused them of being told what to do, as if they are not leaders (strong) enough to express their own views.”

The region then took another swipe at Ledwaba, saying, since she assumed the vice presidency of Safa in 2013, she has “never visited our region even once,” adding “but less than four days before the elections you sent us the letter to support you, it’s an insult to this region and its members.

“You have never served in the LFAs of Safa, or regional but you want us to believe you you will serve our region and its members?

“It’s a total insult to the leadership of this region,” Modipa said in the letter.

“This office wishes you well on your ongoing campaign. This region achieved a lot without you, and it was always supported by the president Jordaan who came more than we can remember to support the football development projects here in our region, including most of our activities for more than a decade now.

“Let this be the first and final reminder to you madam that you must never send any letter to this region seeking support under my leadership.

“We will never support you as long as I’m the president of this region, including the current executive committee.”

Ledwaba’s quest was already doomed as she was given only 14 days to garner support from the 52 regions after she was cleared by the Safa independent governance committee earlier this month to stand for president.

She was unavailable to respond to the allegations made by the region’s head.
