RICARDO Goss said former SuperSport United goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana captain, Ronwen Williams is irreplaceable.

The 28-year-old joined United on a two-year loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns last week as a replacement for Williams, who joined the Brazilians after spending 19 years at Matsatsantsa a Pitori.

“Williams is a legend at United and the best goalkeeper in the country,” said Goss.

“I don’t think anyone can replace him or fill his big gloves at United. Williams has achieved a lot and spent many years as United’s number one goalkeeper.

“Today he is the current Bafana captain, and that’s because of his hard work and professionalism.

“I know people are saying I am here to replace Williams, but that’s not true. To be honest, the guy is irreplaceable.

“I joined United to make a name for myself and add value to this club. I want to have my own story with United. My aim is to work hard and help the team challenge for trophies this coming season.”

The Durban-born player also mentioned that his other priority is to fight to win a call-up for Bafana.

“I want to play for Bafana regularly and I believe I can do it,” he said.

“What I’ve seen from the current Bafana coach Hugo Broos is that he is fair and if you do well for your club, he will give you a chance in the national team.”

Goss will be working with United’s new coach Gavin Hunt for the second time in his career. The former Golden Arrows keeper worked with Hunt for two years at the now defunct Bidvest Wits from 2018 until 2020.

“Hunt is one of the best coaches in the country and I am happy to work with him again,” added Goss.

“I enjoyed working with him (Hunt) at Wits and he knows how to get the best out of players who are willing to work hard.”
