Showmax is launching a brand-new app, and a ton of new content. Here are our favourite things about what’s coming up.

  1. A new and improved app

Faster, slicker and better looking than ever before: the new Showmax app will bring all the content viewers love on a platform that’s the best ever.

Thanks to their partnership with Comcast, Showmax will be migrating to a new platform created by Peacock, one of the biggest names in streaming worldwide. Subscribers will be getting messages telling them how to upgrade to the new app. It’ll be an easy and seamless process. If you’re a subscriber and you need any help with getting the new app, go to Showmax’s FAQ pages

The new Showmax app is giving plenty of entertainment, without taking all your data. If you’re watching on a mobile device, choose a data setting as low as 40MB/hour. That means a 2GB data bundle will get you a cool 50 hours of streaming.

  1. More exclusive Showmax Originals

From Adulting, to The Wife, to Spinners and Rosemary’s Hitlist, viewers love Showmax Originals. But it’s about to get huge: in February alone, Showmax is releasing nearly 20 brand-new Originals.

Reality lovers can dive into new seasons of favourites The Real Housewives of Durban and The Mommy Club; or new series Chocolate Kings, which follows male exotic dancers; and Widows Unveiled.

The drama lineup includes adaptations of two local bestsellers: Angela Makholwa’s serial killer thriller Red Ink, and international co-production Catch Me A Killer, based on the memoir of Micki Pistorius, South Africa’s first serial killer profiler. On the drama front, there’s Wyfie, a no-holds-barred depiction of four students on the brink of independence; high-school drama Youngins; crime drama Koek and comedy Ekhaya Backpackers to look forward to in South Africa.

  1. More top-notch international content

Love international blockbusters? Thanks to their partnership with Comcast, and agreements with major networks like HBO, Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery and more, Showmax subscribers will be watching some of the world’s most popular content.

At launch, watch Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, two of the 10 biggest box office hits of 2023. On the series front, stream exclusives like Halo S2, express from the US; Lawman: Bass Reeves, from the creators of  Yellowstone and starring David Oyelowo; missing persons procedural Found, which was NBC’s biggest-ever launch on Peacock; and box sets of classic NBC comedies like The Office and Parks and Recreation. It’s also been confirmed that box sets of HBO’s House of the Dragon and the second season of the phenomenal HBO hit The Last of Us will be heading to Showmax in the future.

  1. Premier League in your pocket

At the heart of the new Showmax is a brand-new offering: Africa’s first ever, standalone mobile Premier League plan for mobile, with all 380 games offered live for just R69 a month. With Showmax Premier League, you won’t miss a single game of the Premier League, plus plenty of fascinating extra content that’ll keep fans up to date with the action, the stats, and the stories behind the game.

  1. Great prices and packages

Showmax is determined to bring more entertainment to more people than ever before. That’s why they’re launching new packages that are even more affordable.

In addition to Showmax Premier League, there are two more Showmax plans available to customers in 44 African countries: Showmax Entertainment Mobile for an unbelievable R39 a month at launch, as well as the Showmax Entertainment plan, where the monthly price falls from R99 to R89 per month.
