Corrupt prison warders must be punished.
It’s clear that they work with prisoners to smuggle dagga, Mandrax and heroin in.
Even if only a few are involved, they’re damaging the reputation of the department and of the good warders who put their job first.
Corrupt warders must be disciplined, or even prosecuted, in order to send out a strong message to others that corruption won’t be tolerated.
Prison warders are called upon by the Constitution to make sure South Africa is a safe place. On the other hand, corruption puts the lives of both prisoners and warders at risk.
These officials are responsible for security and for looking after inmates.
Therefore, the nature of their job means their trustworthiness should be beyond question.
Meanwhile, prison bosses turn a blind eye to corrupt activities. Both sides are willingly involving themselves in corruption.
Flush corruption and crooked officials from the system before they corrupt the rest of the staff.
Guards must not do favours in exchange for money.
