Punish officials who don’t work

accreditation

It’s time to hold municipal officials accountable for wasting taxpayers’ money on irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure.

It’s wrong for them to misuse or waste billions of rands meant for services and poverty alleviation.

Corruption at municipal level is on the rise because of unskilled officials. It’s important for municipalities to be more stringent in implementing cost management.

What’s even worse is that some mayors are aware of what is happening but turn a blind eye.

Money is spent on undelivered and unfinished services. The crisis in local government takes us backwards.

Everywhere you go people complain about poor services in municipalities. That’s why we have so many service delivery protests.

Some people forget that they work for municipalities to serve communities and not to put themselves first.

Municipal officials should put service delivery first.

I think it’s about time corrupt officials faced the full might of the law. It can no longer be acceptable that people steal taxpayers’ money and get away with it.

Supply chain management remains a challenge and a huge contributor to wasteful expenditure.

You can’t have a situation where officials compete with residents for tenders.

Municipalities must tighten their internal controls.
