Mzansi will be safer place

accreditation

With the scourge of gender-based violence in our country rising, it’s time that we tried a different approach.

The one we’re using is not working.

When I was growing up, less was said to me as a boy compared to a lot said to girls.

Girls were, and still are, taught and told to dress properly.

They’re instructed how to behave, sit properly and not to go out alone at night.

I think the approach that would be of great help is to focus on the boy child.

Men should be taught from a young age to respect women and see them as equals.

They should stop victimising them and seeing them as inferior. Consent should be taught and practised from a young age.

Women are the victims, so that should make us teach men and young boys a bit more. Women can’t solve the violence alone.
