HAS anybody told our former presidents and deputy presidents that we are all engaged in a round of belt-tightening?
I’m asking this question because our former presidents and deputy presidents live lavishly and don’t feel the pinch that poor people feel.
In the 2016/17 financial year, the state spent R60 million on their travel, security, accommodation and other things.
This is just too much!
We need to tighten our belts and cutting of costs should also affect them.
Our sluggish economy and growing budget deficit call for restraint in government spending.
The ANC government, however, appears far removed from this reality and continues to spend recklessly for the comfort of and on its members’ extravagant lifestyles.
South Africans are bearing the full cost of a 15% VAT increase, but government’s recklessness still goes unchecked.
If we want to make things right, all of us must tighten the belt.
Former leaders must lead by example.
