SANDILE Zungu believes he can save the ANC.
Zungu, who owns AmaZulu soccer team and candidate for the position of KZN ANC chairman, said his love of the party didn’t allow him to watch it go to ruin and that’s why he has joined the leadership race.
Addressing the media at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday, 19 July, he said: “When I was approached by a number of members to rescue this organisation, I had to rise to the challenge.”
Zungu will challenge incumbent chairman and Premier Sihle Zikalala and KZN Finance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube for the position.
He said if he won in the upcoming elections, his first priority would be to unite the organisation in the province and deal with the slates and factions that have become a dangerous weapon of destruction.
“This movement used to be loved and trusted. But now even the ordinary members on the ground have lost faith in it. I believe I am the change that the ANC in the province needs. A leader who will fight for its people when decisions are being taken at national level, and a leader who will put people first,” said Zungu.
The ANC KZN elective conference will take pace at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban from Friday, 22 July until Sunday, 24 July.
