THE Zandspruit mob killing case has been transferred from the Roodepoort Magistrates Court to the South Gauteng High Court for pre-trial.

The mob was accused of beating and setting alight nine alleged gang members in May.

The accused were alleged to have been part of a mob that went house to house, pulling out alleged gang members whom they claimed were terrorising their kasi.

They took the deceased to a soccer field, beat them up and set them alight in view of the public.

Speaking in court on Thursday, 25 November, Magistrate Delise Smith told the 13 men and one woman that they could be facing life sentences.

In September, three of the 14 accused were granted R3 000 bail each, nine denied bail while two abandoned it. Twelve were charged jointly with eight counts of murder, two of attempted murder, 10 of kidnapping with intent to cause murder and nine of housebreaking.

“If you have witnesses, bring that to the attention of the judge,” Smith said.

The pre-trial will start on 28 January.
