YOUNG teacher Zethembe Sibiya is happy that he got to celebrate World Teacher’s Day in class doing what he loves.

World Teacher's Day is commemorated annually on 5 October and while teachers were praised for the marvelous work they do for future generations, the 26-year-old maths and physical science teacher at KWV Education Upgrading Centre in Nseleni, northern KZN was in class teaching physical science.

Zethembe said he was happy to receive thank you messages while doing exactly what people were thanking him for.

“I believe that teachers should be celebrated more often because they give birth to career paths that pupils embark on after grade 12. We're the moulders of everything. We ourselves are products of teachers who dedicated their time to teaching us,” said Zethembe.

He said that his joy comes from seeing his pupils excel in the subjects he teaches. But seeing them progress in life is more rewarding for him.

“I love my work and I'd never trade it for anything else. I enjoy simplifying these subjects and making pupils fall in love with them so they can easily pass,” he said.

KZN Education MEC Mbali Frazer wished all the teachers an excellent day. She also thanked them for their dedication and hard work in shaping the futures of young ones.

“You're the most valuable resource, you are the fountain from which we derive our strength. The sacrifices that our teachers make to sharpen our pupils and to ensure they have a fighting chance in life is appreciated,” said Frazer.
