TRAGEDY has struck the Mabaso family in Evaton, Vaal.

Their one-month-old baby girl, Keabetswe Mabaso, was stolen from her home while her mother went to the bathroom on Friday afternoon, 25 August.

It is alleged that a woman claiming to be from an NGO that helps poor people disappeared without a trace with the baby girl while visiting the mother.

Mapuleng Mabaso (32) from Small Farms in Evaton is asking SunReaders for help to be reunited with her baby girl who was stolen by a woman who called herself Nonhlanhla Khumalo.

One-month-old baby girl Keabetswe Mabaso was kidnapped from her home on Friday.

According to Mapuleng, the woman arrived at her home on Wednesday afternoon, 23 August, saying she is doing a door to door assisting disadvantaged residents with her NGO which deals with Mother and Child Development.

“She said they are helping mothers with food parcels, baby nappies and clothes and they first assess before doing any donations,” she said.

Mapuleng said on Thursday, 24 August, the woman came back and they spoke about her situation.

"We spoke about my life situation and the struggles that I face on a daily basis with my six children,” she said.

The devastated mum said she trusted the woman and had hopes that a Good Samaritan had come to her home and her kids would no longer go to bed with empty stomachs, not knowing she had welcomed a criminal into her home.

Mapuleng said she left the woman in the house as she went to the bathroom outside and upon her return, baby Keabetswe and the woman were nowhere to be seen.

“I tried to look for her on the streets, but I couldn’t find her. I went to the Evaton Police Station to open a case and was referred to Orange Farm Police Station because the woman claimed that she is from Orange Farm," she said.

The woman gave Mapuleng her home address and phone numbers but when cops tried to investigate the home address, it did not exist.

Her cellphone contacts were working but as cops were busy calling, it ended up being off.

“Police tried their best to locate the phone to its last location, but they didn’t find anything,” she said.

Mapuleng couldn’t hold back her tears when she narrated the story to the SunTeam at her mother’s home in Evaton West.

Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi told Daily Sun that the cops have opened a kidnaping case and anyone with information should contact their nearest police station.
