COPS in Cape Town are investigating after a woman was found dead at Clifton Beach on Sunday morning, 11 February.
The woman who was in her costume was spotted by other swimmers who were also swimming in the area.
The swimmers took the body of the lady from the water to the shoreline with the hope that she was still alive.
They then tried to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with the help of a medical doctor who happened to be at the beach at the time of the incident, but their efforts were in vain.
National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesman Craig Lambinon said the Good Samaritans tried to assist the woman, but she sadly died.

“After all efforts to resuscitate the female were exhausted sadly, she was declared deceased. The body of the female was taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services. While it appears that the lady had been swimming at the time, police have opened an inquest docket.
“Formal identification of the deceased is in progress, in cooperation with the police and the Forensic Pathology Services. Condolences are conveyed to family and friends of the deceased lady,” said Lambinon.
Western Cape police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk said the woman had been identified as a 56-year-old Durbanville resident.
“According to reports, at about 2pm a complaint was received at 4th Beach Clifton where a bag suspected to be related/ belonging to the victim of drowning in 2nd Beach from Clifton Lifeguards. A bag was handed over to SAPS and information and contact number of family was found inside the bag and family was contacted,” said Van Wyk.
