A DARK cloud is surrounding Protea Glen in Soweto after a 41-year-old woman was burnt beyond recognition, allegedly by her boyfriend at her home on Friday night, 26 August.

Protea Glen extension 27 residents were left in shock after a man allegedly set his girlfriend ablaze by burning down the main bedroom, where he had allegedly locked her inside.

The police said an officer attended to the scene and found the neighbors had already put out the fire, but the main bedroom had burnt down.

In the room there was a body of a woman who was burnt beyond recognition. Paramedics certified her dead.

Residents alleged that the woman was locked inside her house with her two sons when the fire started.

“The deceased was inside her bedroom where her boyfriend allegedly started the fire after an argument, leaving her there with her six-year-old son, while her other son was in his room,” said a resident.

Police said the children were admitted to hospital.

Colonel Dimakatso Sello said that the motive was unknown at this stage and the suspect has not yet been arrested.

“The police are on the lookout for the suspect who is on the run. One victim aged 41 years old succumbed to her burn injuries, her two children are in hospital,” she said.
