Witness: Senzo’s blood wasn’t flowing

accreditation

DURING the resumption of the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, the court heard that after Meyiwa was shot, he didn’t bleed much.

Meyiwa’s childhood friend, Tumelo Madlala, told the court that Meyiwa’s blood was not flowing. There were just spots of blood on the floor where he was lying.

He said after a while people began to come into the house and it was packed.

“There were other people in the house. It was now packed. I think it was the neighbours,” he said.

Madlala said they carried him to the car, but he was unresponsive.

“We got him inside the BMW. Kelly drove us to the hospital. She was hitting the speed humps and Zandile had to reprimand her,” he said.

He said while they were in the car, he was using a blue face cloth to try and stop the bleeding.

When asked by state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi if the blood was coming out of Meyiwa, Madlala responded: “There was blood coming out, because there were newspapers in the car, and they also had blood.”

He told the court that upon arrival at the Botshelong Hospital, they requested a stretcher, but they were given a wheelchair.

“We told them that we need a stretcher and they brought it. They loaded him on the stretcher and took him to another room.

“We were left waiting by the benches. After a while a nurse came, holding an X-ray and asked to talk to an elder,” he said.

Madlala told the court that Kelly’s mother Gladness went to talk to the nurse and she came back crying and told them Meyiwa was no more, then they all started to cry too.

“I then asked to go see him. He was still on the stretcher, but he was covered. I went back a second time, but I had to force to go in because they didn’t want to allow us, Kelly followed me.

“When I saw him again, I was crying and I asked him if he called me to come see him die, after that I kissed him on the forehead. Kelly took off his watch,” he said.

He said the hospital began to get full. Meyiwa’s wife Mandisa also arrived, and even Orlando Pirates soccer players were there.

He told the court things began to get chaotic with Mandisa and Kelly fighting.

“I think they were fighting because there was even hair on the floor,” he said.
