accreditation

THE Greytown Regional Court has sentenced Dumisani Mchunu, who was a traffic officer at the Umvoti Municipality, on Tuesday, 28 June.

According to Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, the accused demanded R10 000 tjotjo after he claimed that the licence disc of the complainant’s vehicle was fraudulent.

“The complainant reported the matter to the Hawks members from Durban serious corruption investigation unit and an undercover operation was conducted on 3 March 2022. He was arrested at his place of employment and charged for corruption,” Mhlongo.

He said Mchunu appeared in court several times until he was convicted and sentenced.

“He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment of which half of the sentence will be served under correctional supervision,” Mhlongo said.
